Case Study on Death and Dying

The practice of health care providers at all levels brings you into contact with people from a variety of faiths. This calls for knowledge and understanding of a diversity of faith expressions; for the purpose of this course, the focus will be on the Christian worldview.

Based on “Case Study: End of Life Decisions,” the Christian worldview, and the worldview questions presented in the required topic study materials you will complete an ethical analysis of George’s situation and his decision from the perspective of the Christian worldview.

Provide a 1,500-2,000-word ethical analysis while answering the following questions:

How would George interpret his suffering in light of the Christian narrative, with an emphasis on the fallenness of the world?
How would George interpret his suffering in light of the Christian narrative, with an emphasis on the hope of resurrection?
As George contemplates life with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), how would the Christian worldview inform his view about the value of his life as a person?
What sorts of values and considerations would the Christian worldview focus on in deliberating about whether or not George should opt for euthanasia?
Given the above, what options would be morally justified in the Christian worldview for George and why?
Based on your worldview, what decision would you make if you were in George’s situation?
Remember to support your responses with the topic study materials.

Which career option did you choose, and why?
Where would someone in this role work?
What types of professional activities does someone perform in this role?
What requirements must a person meet to pursue this career option?

Criminal Justice Report

Report writing is an important aspect of your responsibilities as a criminal justice professional. For this assignment, you will review a scenario and complete a report commonly found in a particular criminal justice profession.

Review the four following options and choose one to complete this assignment. For your chosen option, review the associated scenario and complete the provided report template:

SCENARIO:
Option 4: Adult Parole and Probation Officer

Scenario: Read the following scenario:

The defendant, Lindsey Nahol, entered Sparkle Jewelry and asked the sales clerk to show her several pieces of expensive jewelry. When the clerk turned his back, the defendant slipped a diamond necklace into her purse and walked toward the exit. When the security guard attempted to stop the defendant, she kicked and scratched him. With help from the store clerk, the security guard restrained the defendant and held her in a room until the local police arrived and placed her under arrest for robbery. Ms. Nahol has been in jail for 60 days and has pleaded guilty to robbery and assault and battery. Judge Fairmont has requested a pre-sentence investigation and report.

The pre-sentence investigation reveals that Ms. Nahol, now 30, has been involved in the criminal justice system since she was 14, when she was adjudicated for car theft, for which she was placed on juvenile probation. She violated her probation but subsequently completed a 36-month probational term. As an adult, Ms. Nahol has been sentenced three times for various crimes including shoplifting, burglary, and possession of a controlled substance. She successfully completed her probation for these offenses one year ago. Ms. Nahol states that she stole a car when she was 14 because she wanted her friends to think that she was cool and that this is also why she started using drugs. As for the security officer, during the interview, Ms. Nahol stated that she was defending herself and standing her ground, because the security guard grabbed her first, when he was trying to prevent her from leaving the store.

Ms. Nahol has her high school diploma. She has not spoken to any of her family members in more than a year but states that she has very close friends who let her stay at their house anytime she wants. She spends her time thinking about her future and is interested in earning her degree in criminal justice from Strayer University and becoming a juvenile probation officer.

The prosecutor has asked for five years in prison, followed by five years of probation. The defense attorney has asked for time served plus two years of probation.

Publish a Website: Let’s Explore the World through Music

Publish a Website: Let’s Explore the World through Music

Goal: The goal of this discussion is to explore the history, culture, instruments, and musical elements of a specific style of non-Western music.

Description:  In this project, you will create an informative website featuring the traditional music of a specific non-Western culture. (Note that the term “world music” in the context of this assignment refers to music that is not based in the Western tradition of music. Something to consider when choosing your topic is to make sure it is a style of music that is still in existence and performed, so you will be able to find musical examples and address all of the required elements of the assignment.

Here is a beginner’s guide for creating Wix websites and a good video explanation of building a website with Wix.

Here is a sample website that met the assignment requirements.  (This example website includes a little too much direct quoting and the musical example needs a more developed explanation.)

The website should include the following:

  1. A summary of the chosen culture including a short history.
  2. A brief explanation of some beliefs and traditions of the culture.
  3. Description of the instruments used in that culture’s music.
  4. Explanation of the key attributes of the culture’s music, including melody, harmony, timbre, texture, rhythm and form. (If the style of music you choose does not include one or more of these musical elements, then you need to explain why that musical element is not present in the music.)
  5. Specific introduction to one piece of music from the culture. Include at least one example of the music, such as through linking to YouTube performances. Be sure to include a description of the musical example.

The above elements can either be included on one page of your website or separated into different pages.

Include your name on your website. Your website should include photos and video (either linked or embedded). Embedded photos and videos need to be cited.

Your choice of world music must be a style of traditional music that is non-Western or not from the Western tradition of music, therefore avoid choosing styles of music from the U.S., Canada, or Europe, including Jazz or any type of pop music (including hip hop). For example, a pop or rock band from Europe or Japan would not be appropriate for this assignment. Celtic or Irish music are also not appropriate styles of music because these are European styles of music. Also, because most students are already familiar with Reggae music, do not choose Reggae for your topic.

Sources must be valid, academic sources (i.e. Please do not use non-academic websites, such as Wikipedia or About.com). Your website should not contain more than 15% direct quotes and direct quotes must be in quotation marks. Direct quotes and paraphrased material must be cited in the body of the text and in a reference section.  After your website is completed and published, submit your website link in Assignments

Ambulatory Care

Ambulatory Care

Overview

Ambulatory care encompasses a diverse and growing sector of the health care delivery system. Physician services are the chief components. Hospital outpatient and emergency departments, community health centers, departments of health, and voluntary agencies also contribute important services, however, particularly for underserved and vulnerable populations.

Today, patients have many options for how and where they spend their money. That includes selecting a health care provider. Hospitals seek to achieve the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award to excel in improving quality patient care and to be more competitive in health care. (For more information, see What is the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA)?) St. David’s HealthCare reviewed its operations and knew it was critical for the organization to continually improve. St. David’s HealthCare adopted Baldrige criteria.

Scenario

Recall, in the SWOT PowerPoint assignment, you were hired as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of We Care Hospital and one of your first tasks was to conduct a SWOT analysis of the HIT system at the hospital. Review your SWOT. You have now been working at the health care facility for several months. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) would like to become more competitive in the health care market and to show their patients that they are one of the top-rated hospitals. The CEO asks you to review the Malcolm Baldrige requirements to help improve emergency room waiting times. Your research found a trend analysis at St. David’s HealthCare facility that earned them the Malcolm Baldrige Award. According to the ASQ Knowledge Center, in 2008, wait times were over 45 minutes and steadily declined to just over 15 minutes in 2014.

Instructions

Write a three to four-page paper in which you:

  1. Research peer-reviewed journal articles on how to achieve clinical quality in ambulatory care and identify best practices.
  2. Analyze the triage status of emergency department visits in the United States. (Hint: See Figure 5-3 in the textbook.)
  3. Provide a recommendation to the CEO on whether We Care Hospital operations can potentially meet the Malcolm Baldrige award criteria. Why or why not? Justify your response.
  4. Use at least three recent (within the last five years) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note:Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as academic resources.

This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

  • Prepare a recommendation for achieving clinical quality in ambulatory care based on research of best practices.
